Questions
- What is Dil Ki Cassette?
- A calm listening room for Bollywood melodies, from the 90s golden era of Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik to Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh. It has 402 hand-picked songs, mood presets that change the rain in the window, and a car mode for driving.
- Is it free?
- Yes. It's a personal, non-commercial project with no ads, no sign-up and no tracking of what you play.
- Where does the music come from? Is it legal?
- Nothing is hosted, copied or downloaded. 357 songs play from the record labels' own official uploads (T-Series, Sony Music, YRF, Tips, Saregama and others) through YouTube's embedded player, so every play counts for them. The credits page lists every song, singer and label.
- Who made it?
- Mehboob Shaikh, a lead full-stack engineer in Mumbai, built it as a home for the songs he loves. His work is at mehboobshaikh.com.
- How do I request a song?
- Use "Request a song" on the credits page or in the footer. Your mail app opens with a short template to [email protected]; anonymous is fine.
- Can I play my own Spotify or YouTube playlist?
- Yes. In Library → Mixtapes, paste a public YouTube playlist or a Spotify playlist or album. It plays here, and stays saved in your browser.
- What are the moods?
- Seven presets: Barsaat (rain), Dard (sad), Pyaar (romantic), Raat (late night), Safar (long drive), Sukoon (soulful) and Shararat (playful). Each changes the weather in the window and queues those songs.
- Can I share the exact moment of a song?
- Yes. The share button on the player makes a link to that song, optionally from the current second and with the mood and sky you're in.
- Does it work on phones and in the car?
- Yes. It works in any modern browser, can be installed to your home screen, and has a car mode with big buttons that keeps the screen on.
- Why does a shared link say “Tap play to start”?
- Browsers don't allow sound until you tap a page. The song waits at the shared second; one tap starts it.
